Claude Code is Anthropic's tool for working with software, built on Claude. It helps you read, change and understand the code in your own projects. Here is a plain path into using it.
What Claude Code is for
Claude Code helps with everyday development work: exploring an unfamiliar codebase, making changes, fixing bugs and explaining what a piece of code does. You stay in charge of the project while it does the legwork.
Using it on a real project
Pick a small, genuine task in a project you know, such as a bug or a modest feature. Describe the goal clearly, point to the relevant files and let Claude Code propose its changes. Real work teaches faster than toy examples.
Working safely
Read every change before you accept it, and keep your work under version control so you can step back at any time. Run your tests and ask Claude Code to explain anything you do not follow.
Building good habits
Give clear instructions, work in small steps and describe what done looks like. The prompting skills from Learn Claude carry over directly, so the two pages work well together.
